History of Western and Thai Democracy
The evolution of democracy differs from the western way, in which the western tradition is very different from Thailand, either in the Thai tradition which is cultivated in the fear of authority or in the form of authoritarianism. especially those who are still uneducated. And most of the country's population still lacks understanding of democracy. and including people in the middle class today who are fascinated by globalization trends On the subject of materialism that is prevalent from the West on consumerism, we can briefly analyze it as follows.
A. Groups of poor people or farmers have a rather difficult lifestyle in rural rural areas, the prosperity of society They tend to feed their stomachs, so they are not seriously interested in democratic methods in a way that creates awareness in their thoughts. Most of the country's citizens rely on government assistance. such as financial assistance, public utilities, which are often related to lifestyle factors. Simply put, Thai people do not care about democratic politics. Therefore, we look at democracy as just a form such as having elections, having representatives representing the people. without giving importance to the government's corruption Asking only to have food and use for one day only, so those who represent candidates for election without money was unable to help the villagers As a result, Thai politics cannot enable ordinary people, who may be knowledgeable people but do not have many economic statuses, to help the villagers. Or some of you may be in good standing but do not want to play politics in this way. But if you come into play without buying a political vote, you must be a famous person. and is popular with local people Of which there are quite a few, but Western democracy in developed or developed countries There is no such thing as a coup d'état. This is because the development of democracy in the West is due to their people having a democratic consciousness which is more in nature than a democratic form. But Western democracies may have a disadvantage in that leaders in developed countries may like to organize global society. and to intervene, which may not use democratic methods Making the world system today still confused (Chaos World Politics) because the democratic rules in each country have different rules. and different Unlike football rules, which are played in any country, the rules are the same. There is a certain standard of play. But whether the judgment is fair or not is up to each country. But the way of democratic governance, the players are all the people. And must know the rules very well and have a spirit of playing But if most of the people of Thailand still lack proper democratic consciousness As a result, it makes Thai politics look like a vicious circle. It's like a vicious circle of poverty. and is poverty and intellectual poverty in democracy and including good morals but may be extravagant in material and obsessed with changing world trends The spirit of democracy that Thai people have been fighting since the events of October 14, 1973 is lost. because of the lack of government interested in and caring to nurture democracy to flourish and was only interested in the economy of the country, especially the government in the era of Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra as Prime Minister which focuses on globalization and declares himself a leader of change while all sectors in society still can't keep up with you Because he emphasized administration but did not focus on governance, thus causing the group of academics to be dissatisfied. Actually, the matter of the stomach is the most important matter of Thai people. But because there are people in the middle class and academics interested in the way of democratic governance have come to play a role. and keep watching all the time But it is one of the people who have a lot of interest in the people. They are more likely to be residents of urban communities than in rural areas. Thai society therefore expects a leader who will make the economy prosperous. And there is a complete democracy which is like a double-track railway, which is not easy. Therefore, the political culture of these people is subject political culture and views politics as a matter of politicians. not about the people
For the middle class people Most of them are well educated people. and often in the city The need for freedom of thought, writing and expression is therefore more demanding than any other group, and if the government does not listen to them, Or have policies that conflict with the group working in the state enterprise, which is a group that has a strong organization from the past so far. In particular, the government of Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra ran into conflicts of thought. Including the role of the opposition that the government is too stable and exercise power in a populist manner which is counting the days as a culture that causes dissatisfaction which Thai leaders should have a compromising personality and have compassion for different groups of people in a friendly manner and is characterized by being open, free and accepting opinions. It will cause groups of people to lose their stubbornness, to defeat them by means of violence, or attacks, including slander. which does not produce good results The role of the leader and the behavior of Thai leaders are therefore important. Such as lowering your self-confidence, listening to more opinions, paying attention to every problem, no matter how small the problem is, small problems can cause big problems that are difficult to fix. It is like a single drop of honey causing problems to spread.
